FOX4’s rival on the air reportedly offered to staff the WDAF newsroom so staffers could attend the funeral of weatherman Don Harman, who committed suicide last week, according to MediaBistro’s TVSpy blog.
Although funeral plans for WDAF meteorologist Don Harman have not yet been released, TVSpy has learned all three rival stations in Kansas City — KSHB, KMBC and KCTV — have offered help staffing the WDAF newsroom so Harman’s friends and colleagues can attend the service.
FOX4 respectfully declined, as news director Bryan McGruder told TVSpy: “While we greatly appreciate the gestures, we won’t need the help.”
As noted on BottomLine Communications, similar gestures have happened in the past. After KCTV news editor Nick Dutcher was murdered, KMBC staffers covered some assignments so Dutcher’s colleagues could attend his funeral.
