Well, he was probably joking about the white people part, but Tony Botello of Tony’s Kansas City writes that local media hasn’t done enough to highlight the shooting deaths of blacks. A new study shows Missouri leads the nation in murders of blacks.
It’s true that most murders in urban areas earn just a brief in the paper, unless there’s something incredibly unique about them. Some might argue that all murders are unique because they take an individual’s life.
But Botello writes that a bigger spotlight must be shown on causes and effects of these murders.
On this topic, I’m guided by an a very smart Kansas City reporter once said that if the same situation at the same rate was happening in the suburbs, they would have called out the National Guard by now.
