The Kansas City Star’s won a Triple Crown when its sports section was named on of the top 10 in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors. It also was named of the top 10 daily and Sunday sports sections, and was recognized for having one of the best special sections, too, though the award site doesn’t go into detail. It was one of 14 big papers to win top 10 honors in three of four categories.
It was also recognized for multimedia work
Kent Babb, Bob Dutton, Pete Grathoff, Sam Mellinger, Terez A. Paylor and Tod Palmer were recognized for special project reporting, though, again, the site doesn’t say what the project was.
Matt Tait, Kansas football beat writer for the LJWorld and KUsports.com, won an award for best beat writer from the Associated Press Sports Editors. His coverage of the Big 12 realignment and KU’s coaching search was relentless; the award is well-deserved. The Journal-World was also named as a top 10 Sunday sports section.
