Area papers win honors from Kansas Press Association

It’s awards season, and at least three area papers were honored for their work by the Kansas Press Association. (They also happen to be three owned by my company, but I’ve been searching high and low for mention of other winners).

The Lawrence Journal-World won 26 KPA awards, including nine first place honors. On the editorial side, the J-W won for best online video (feature), best special section and best website. The Journal-World competes in the KPA’s largest division against the Kansas City Star, the Wichita Eagle and the Topeka Capital-Journal.

The Shawnee Dispatch won 16 awards in the non-daily Division 3 category, including first place for news story, education story, sports story and sports feature.

The Bonner Springs Chieftain won nine awards in the non-daily Division 1 category, including first place for news story, agriculture story, online video and sports feature.

Winners will be recognized April 21 in Overland Park, during the association’s annual convention.

If I find any more winners, I’ll post ’em here.
