The parent company of 41 Action News KSHB is dispatching “support and guidance” from above to the station, though it’s unclear why. As MediaBistro’s TVSpy reports, Ed Fernandez, currently GM of WXYZ in Detroit, will co-manage the station with current GM Mike Vrabac. Four other stations, in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Phoenix and Tampa, will get the same treatment.
Fernandez will remain based in Detroit.
“It has been a busy time as we adapt to our new markets, stations and employees, while they learn what it means to be a Scripps TV station,” said Scripps VP for television Brian Lawlor in a memo. “I can say with complete conviction that we are more excited about these new stations today than we were the day we completed the acquisition.”
Scripps has owned KSHB since 1977.
