3 with KC-area connections named to ‘100 Outstanding Journalists’ list

Columbia University New York University released a list of “100 Outstanding Journalists in the United States in the last 100 years,” and at least three journos with KC-area connections were included.

Legendary CBS anchor Walter Cronkite was born in St. Joseph and began his broadcast career at radio station KCMO.

One of the world’s most revered writers, Ernest Hemingway began his journalism career as a cub reporter at the Kansas City Star.

Poet and playwright Langston Hughes grew up in Lawrence.

Photographer Gordon Parks, who grew up in Fort Scott and received the 2005 William Allen White award from KU, was also included.
