This one is from UNITY: Journalists of Color, which put together a 100 best journalists in the last 100 years list as a response to the New York University list that came out earlier this week. UNITY said the NYU list lacked diversity (though of the journos with KC connections, two were black).
Kansas City isn’t particularly well-represented in the UNITY list, but Star publisher Mi-Ai Parrish is included among the likes of Ed Bradley, Clarence Page, Anthony Shadid, Nick Ut and Gwen Ifill.
William Woo, the first Chinese-American to edit a major newspaper (St. Louis Post-Dispatch) was also included. Born in China, he and his mother settled in Kansas City, and Woo began his newspaper career in 1957 at the Kansas City Times.
