A few days late, but not a dollar short.
A Harry Truman impersonator paid the president’s former newspaper delivery boy a 65-year-old bill that Truman apparently never made good on. The Star reports Niel Johnson received $56.63 as reimbursement for the $7.50 he never got while delivering the Independence Examiner to the Truman home. Adjusted for inflation, that would be more than $76 in 2012, but who’s counting?
It’s unclear why – or even if – Truman didn’t pay the bill, but Johnson, 80, said he’s happy to finally be square. He’s donating the money to Quilts of Valor, which makes quilts for veterans.
