Seems like we’ve been hearing a lot of about mini-tremors over at The Star, small shakeups that could provide a big punch.
The latest, according to Greg Hall, is the elevation of Chiefs reporter Kent Babb to sports columnist, where he’ll share space with Sam Mellinger. It gives The Star two top columnists for the first time since the days of Posnanski and Whitlock.
“I could not be more excited about our future,” wrote Jeff Rosen, The Star’s sports editor, in a recent interoffice memo. “With a one-two commentary punch of Kent and Sam, who last year was named a Top 10 columnist by APSE and this year garnered second place in the prestigious Headliners contest.
Along with helping us dominate the regional storytelling scene in print, these guys are heavyweights when it comes to social media, boasting more than 25,000 Twitter followers between them.”
The other half of the equation is Randy Covitz replacing Babb on the Chiefs beat. Covitz joins Adam Teicher, and it’s their second stint pulling Chefs duty together.
