There are no medals for Olympic viewing, but if there were, Kansas City would earn a bronze. So says the Kansas City Business Journal, which reports Kansas City ranked third in the nation for viewers of the Olympics opening weekend, coming in behind Salt Lake City and San Diego. Milwaukee tied with KC, according to a report from NBC Sports.
Dave Borchardt, media relations manager for Time Warner Cable, said he thought Kansas City was responding well to the Olympics because of the town’s love for sports, ranging from college athletics to professional teams. However, he also said the city’s location has something to do with the high viewership.
“We’re in the Heartland, and it’s a very patriotic part of the country, and I think people tune in to see the USA,” he said.
The London Olympics is the most watched since the Games began being broadcast in 1960.
