The Sporting News borrows liberally from the Journal-World

When the KU basketball team set out for a European tour earlier this month, the Lawrence Journal-World was the lone American news outlet to send a reporter. Jesse Newell, editor the Journal-World’s KUSports.com site, accompanied the team to Switzerland and France.

The Sporting News did not go, but it appears to have borrowed text from Newell’s dispatches, as an American blogger abroad found.

The Lawrence Journal-World, Kansans’ eminent source of KU news, had a reporter, Jesse Newell, on the scene, and he dutifully filed a story recapping the incident. Because players spitting on officials is interesting in a there’s-nothing-else-to-talk-about kind of way, Sporting News pounced on the Journal-World article and rewrote it for their website. …
Here is the first paragraph from The Journal-World‘s article:
Even Kansas University coach Bill Self had trouble describing what he saw from Swiss forward David Ramseier in the second quarter of Kansas’ 79-76 exhibition victory Tuesday.
And the first paragraph from Sporting News:
Even University of Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self, rarely at a loss for words, had trouble describing what he saw from Swiss forward David Ramseier in the second quarter of the Jayhawks’ 79-76 tour-opening exhibition victory Tuesday in Fribourg, Switzerland, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.
