The award gods smiled upon the Lawrence Journal-World today, as the paper took home hardware in two different contests.
At this morning’s Inland Press Association awards breakfast, Journal-World photographer Nick Krug won first place in the multimedia category for his work on a story following a single father dealing with his wife’s suicide. Krug also won second place in the Picture Story category for the same story. He also won second place in the photo contest for a picture he took of former Jayhawk Thomas Robinson.
The J-W’s series about a Topeka man exonerated for rape continued to bring home the bacon, as the work by reporter Shaun Hittle, Krug and photographer Kevin Anderson won for creative use of multimedia. The paper’s website, LJWorld.com, won for general excellence in online news.
Editor & Publisher also honored the Journal-World with a pair of prestigious EPpy Awards, which honor the industry’s best online journalism. The website won for Best Daily Newspaper Website with under 1 million unique monthly visitors. The photo staff also won for Best News Video with under 1 million unique monthly visitors category. It won the same award last year.
The J-W was nominated in six categories.
