Changes in Royals broadcast coverage: Bob Davis retires, Robert Ford moves to Houston

Royals fans will notice some changes this season, as two familiar voices are out of the broadcast booth.

Longtime announcer Bob Davis has retired, Fox Sports Kansas City reported, citing the desire to spend more time at home. Davis says he’ll continue to call Kansas Jayhawks games. He’s been calling KU games for 30 years, and stepped into the Royals broadcast booth with Paul Splitorff in 1997.

“I think they have enough guys to get by,” Davis said. The Royals broadcast team currently consists of Denny Matthews, Ryan Lefebvre, Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler.

610 Sports reporter Robert Ford is moving on, too. The Houston Astros announced this week Ford will be the team’s primary radio play-by-play man. Ford did pre- and post-game reporting for 610.
