@KCURUpToDate: #KU Professor David Guth placed on “indefinite administrative leave” pending review of #NRA Tweet issue,” KCUR tweeted.
The University of Kansas distanced itself today from journalism associate professor David Guth, who tweeted his desire to see children of NRA members slain in the next mass shooting.
“#NavyYardShooting The blood is on the hands of the #NRA. Next time, let it be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you,” wrote Guth in a tweet posted Monday.
Dean Ann Brill, in a statement, said Guth’s comments “do not represent our school and we do not advocate violence directed against any group or individuals,” but that they fall within in his First Amendment rights.
On his blog, Guth elaborated: “The time has passed for niceties and tact. The blood spilled today is on the hands of the National Rifle Association. I don’t care how the NRA tries to spin this. One fact is undeniable: The NRA has championed a gun culture that is shredding our nation’s moral authority like armor-plated bullets ripping through flesh.”
The Kansas Rifle Association called for Guth to be fired on Thursday.
