KSHB, the area’s NBC affiliate, was a perennial loser – until general manager Brian Bracco came on board about a year ago.
The Star takes a long look at the rising fortunes of Channel 41. Since Bracco arrived from KMBC and Hearst, KSHB has shot up the ratings chart and won awards for its investigative work, such as its coverage of the JJ’s gas explosion.
How’d it happen? A number of factors, including determination by the staff.
“We were fourth,” Bracco told Tim Engle. “And talking to the people here, they didn’t want to be fourth.”
