KC Star announces more layoffs

The Kansas City Star is laying off 12 full- and part-time positions, the paper reported today. It’s the second round of layoffs in less than a year.

Publisher Mi-Ai Parrish said the job eliminations were a difficult step that comes as the newspaper continues to “restructure and strategically reinvent” its operations.

The paper will also eliminate several open positions. The Star’s story didn’t specify if any newsroom positions were affected.

KC Confidential reports an IT specialist, three accounting staffers, a telephone operator and two production specialists were among those let go, a week after a McClatchy executive visited The Star. Today is the 132nd anniversary of the paper’s first edition.
