KC Star reporters told to decide who stays, who goes

A pair of Kansas City Star reporters were reportedly told to figure out which one of them will stay and which will go, in the wake of layoffs announced earlier this week, Hearne Christopher wrote yesterday.

Veteran reporters Karen Dillon and Dawn Bormann have been identified as the two reporters with an impossible choice.

Jim Romenesko heard from Dillon: “We’ve not made an official decision” on who gets to stay, she said. “It’s one of the most difficult situations I’ve ever faced.”

Star publisher Mi-Ai Parrish declined to comment to Romenesko. I’ve asked Star HR director Chris Piwowarek if he can comment on the decision to have the reporters work out the details of their unemployment.
